My first two months at Motive has passed by incredibly quickly, probably because so much has happened. From a nerve-filled first day to starting back in the office after weeks of virtual socialising with my new team.
I was first introduced to the world of PR whilst studying Media at Sheffield HallamUniversity and I knew it was a part of the media that I really wanted to be involved in. I was excited by the creativity, ability to contribute to several client accounts and gain coverage across the internet in publications that I have read for years!
After leaving University, I started a role with a marketing agency that allowed me to gain in store marketing skills and work with one of the UK’s largest retailers as my client. However, I knew that I wanted to progress into something which allowed me to display more of my creative side and propel me into the digital world.
I was so excited to have received the offer from Motive (as my friends and family can attest to as I was talking to them about it every single day until the day I got the offer)! On my first day, I was introduced to the team virtually and I instantly felt at ease. In my first week I learned more about key PR tools such as Vuelio and Ahrefs whilst being given the chance to write client comments and press releases all in my first few days. The exciting work I was asked to do so early on coupled with daily zoom calls with the super supportive team at Motive made me feel like I had hit the new job jackpot!
Transferrable Skills
Landing in a new industry can often seem really scary, however it is important to remember the power of transferable skills and try and get as stuck in as possible! My biggest tips for starting a new role, especially remotely, would be to ask as many questions as possible and to try and get to grips with planning out your days as much as possible. Onboarding schedules help greatly with this!
The excitement of seeing my own stories published in titles such as The Mirror so early on into my PR journey is extremely rewarding and motivating!
Recently, the team has started part time office working which has given me the opportunity to meet all my colleagues properly after weeks of virtually socialising. This has been the cherry on top for my first two months at Motive and it has been super fun to be around my colleagues where we can brainstorm, celebrate each other's wins, and just have a good natter all in person!
